TikTok Error: Unsupported media size. See Video Restrictions and Photo Restrictions
This error typically occurs if the video content you're attempting to post on TikTok doesn't meet TikTok's specific video criteria. These requirements include both a minimum framerate and video resolution.
TikTok Video Requirements
TikTok's video requirements include:
- The framerate for videos used needs to be between 23-60fps.
- For best results, use videos of 1:1.95 aspect ratio, though all videos of 360px to 4096px dimensions on either side (width or height) will be allowed.
- All videos need to be over 3 seconds long. Additionally, users have different video length limits (this is just how TikTok works). Some users are limited to 3 minutes, while others can upload videos up to 5, or even 10 minutes.
To Resolve
As long as your video content follows the direction above, it should publish without issue. If you're encountering issues, consider the following:
- Framerate issues:
- We've noticed users create "video" content out of a slideshow of still pictures with a musical background. This causes issues when the images are added as a single frame, dropping the video's framerate to about 1 frame per second.
- Due to this low framerate, TikTok rejects the video - this is likely to encourage people to upload videos taken with a camera, or generally video of people/animals/life rather than generating slideshows or presentations. No worries, you can absolutely get around this. This can be fixed by re-exporting the original video as a 24fps video - ensuring no optimization of frame rates - so even if it's just a slow slideshow with music, the TikTok API will still allow it because it's running the slideshow at 24 fps.
- Resolution issues:
- TikTok requires a minimum of 360px on the shortest edge of your video. This means that any video that has a width of less than 360 pixels will be rejected by TikTok's API.
- Make sure to check the resolution you're using to film and/or edit your video content and to set the width to at least 360px.
The Post Editor should prevent a post from being saved to the Queue if the video's resolution is under 360px on the shortest edge.
- Video length issues:
- Make sure to always upload videos that are 3 seconds or more.
- If a video fails because it's too long, try a lower length limit to match the one set for your profile by TikTok.
At this time, we prevent posts from being saved to the Queue if the video is too short (under 3 seconds) or too long (over 10 minutes). We are looking to improve the product further in the future to match each profile's specific video length limit.
