What Are Tweet Caps?

X/Twitter has been going through significant changes since its acquisition, including severely limiting access to its API - the interface that third-party apps use to publish and read Tweets.

To ensure we can still support X/Twitter publishing and fall within API limitations, we've introduced Tweet Caps - limits put in place to help distribute the limited Tweet volume across as many of our customers as possible.

What Are Tweet Caps?

Tweet Caps represent separate daily and weekly limits on the number of posts that SmarterQueue can publish to your X (Twitter) profiles.

The usage limits are representative of your account overall and are not profile-specific.

For example, if you have a Daily Tweet Cap of 2 but you've connected 3 X (Twitter) profiles to your account, you'll be able to publish:

  • 1 Tweet each for 2 of your profiles, with no publishing available for the third;
  • 2 Tweets for one profile of your choice, with no publishing available for the other 2.

To monitor your usage, locate the "Daily Tweet Cap" and "Weekly Tweet Cap" bars at the top of the Queue:

You can also find them by clicking the gear icon in the top right and selecting "My Account":

Within the "My Account" section, you'll find the same usage bars displayed, along with a helpful tooltip indicating when Tweet Caps reset. It's worth noting that all caps reset every Monday at midnight GMT.

Check your Posting Plan to ensure you've added an appropriate number of Timeslots per day for your X (Twitter) profiles, ensuring smooth publication of all your tweets.

Towards the bottom of the Posting Plan, you'll find a section labeled "Number of Timeslots each day" that includes a designated spot for your Tweet Cap, to remind you of your exact limits.

Why Do I Have Tweet Caps?

In April 2023, X (Twitter) made drastic changes to its API, the essential tool that SmarterQueue, like all other third-party schedulers, relies on to connect and post content to the platform.

These changes have resulted in a significant reduction in the number of tweets that SmarterQueue can publish compared to what was possible before. They also resulted in new and unexpected costs to SmarterQueue for published Tweets.

To adapt, we introduced Tweet Caps to ensure that SmarterQueue can still provide X (Twitter) functionality to our valued customers.

Many large apps chose to no longer offer any Twitter features, including Microsoft, Feedly, and CoSchedule. After thorough consideration of all possible avenues, we decided to adjust our strategy to ensure continued support for the X/Twitter integration. This decision reflects our commitment to offering the most helpful and user-friendly social media tool, aiming to save our users time, money, and effort despite the challenges posed by external platform changes.

What Happens When I Reach Tweet Cap Limits?

As you share content on X (Twitter), your Daily and Weekly Tweet Cap indicators will automatically update to show your remaining available tweets.

If you try to post a tweet once you've reached your Daily and/or Weekly Tweet Cap, the post will automatically fail. You can hover over the red triangle symbol to find out the specific reason for the failure.

Simply reschedule the post to publish once your Tweet Caps have reset. Also, make sure to review your Posting Plan to ensure it doesn't have too many Timeslots per day that go beyond your Daily Tweet Cap limits.

Can I Increase My Tweet Cap?

You can easily increase your Tweet Cap by purchasing an add-on from the Pricing Page. This add-on allows you to adjust the number of tweets you can publish each week, giving you the flexibility to achieve your social media goals.

To increase your Tweet Cap, visit the Pricing Page and find the "Third-Party Integrations" section. Under the Custom column, select the add-on that best suits your tweeting needs. You'll be able to choose the number of tweets you want to publish weekly, ensuring you have the tools to manage your X (Twitter) activity effectively.

How Much Do Tweet Caps Cost?

The cost of increasing your Tweet Cap depends on the number of tweets you'd like to add. As you select the Tweet Cap add-on, the pricing will automatically update based on your selection, so you only pay for what you need.

Please note that if your account has a discount, add-ons under the "Third-Party Integrations" section will not receive the discount. This is due to SmarterQueue incurring fees for external APIs, which means we are unable to apply any of our regular discount offers to these add-ons.

Your weekly Tweet Cap may be different from your Posts/Profile/Day limit. The Tweet Cap is designed to provide more precise control over your weekly X (Twitter) activity, while the Posts/Profile/Day limit applies to your daily posting across all platforms.
